With a playoff win on the line, McLane rose to the challenge on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Coalinga Horned Toads. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Eddie Jimenez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of McLane's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-16 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Francisco Aleman was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ismael Gonon, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
McLane's win bumped their record up to 14-16. As for Coalinga, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-8.
As of now, neither McLane nor the Horned Toads have any future games scheduled.
