The St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 69-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arroyo. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Pilots players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malia Musson, who scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Musson scored 15 or more points. Isabella Corral was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Arroyo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Chan out in front who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Chan pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sophia Lopez, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
St. Joseph Notre Dame has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Arroyo, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-13.
St. Joseph Notre Dame will take on Encinal at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Arroyo won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hayward at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th.
