The Pius X Thunderbolts will venture away from home to square off against the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Pius X fell victim to Millard North and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 6-0. The Thunderbolts haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Pius X saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendal Heimes, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Skutt Catholic came tearing into Saturday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 15-7 victory. Considering the SkyHawks have won 17 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Isa Torrez looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maddie Schmaderer was excellent, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Leyton Michaelis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Skutt Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westview only posted an OBP of .462.
Pius X's defeat dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Skutt Catholic, their record is now 22-5.
Pius X skirted past Skutt Catholic 3-1 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Do the Thunderbolts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the SkyHawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
