The Los Altos Eagles will take on the Westmont Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Los Altos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Westmont's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Los Altos is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering King's Academy just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Los Altos saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Baum, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, while Westmont put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Milpitas. Everything went Westmont's way against Milpitas as Westmont made off with an 11-0 win. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Vinnie Moreno was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Moreno was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Westmont let Peyton Hines and Kainoa Raub run wild. Hines went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Raub scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four hits gave Hines a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roman Soto, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Westmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Having lost for the first time this season, Los Altos fell to 4-1. As for Westmont, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Los Altos has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Westmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
