O'Connor hasn't had much luck against Liberty recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m.
O'Connor made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Boulder Creek, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 17-14 on Friday. The game was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but the Eagles couldn't quite close it out.
The losing side was boosted by Jeremy Adeyanju, who rushed for 99 yards and one score on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, Liberty faced Brophy College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Lions really took it to the Broncos for the full four quarters, racking up a 38-3 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won six contests in a row.
O'Connor better keep an eye on Jayden Sanchez. He was instrumental in Liberty's win, rushing for 160 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. The dominant performance also gave Sanchez a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Braxton Huynh did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 91 receiving yards.
Liberty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Liberty's defense and their five sacks. Leading the way was Hudson Dunn with 2.5. He is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Tyler Burnstein was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Liberty's record now sits at 7-1. As for O'Connor, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. O'Connor has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 204.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
O'Connor took a serious blow against Liberty in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, falling 46-0. Thankfully for the Eagles, Hayden Fletcher (who threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground) won't be suiting up this time.
