The Whitesboro Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Jim Ned Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Whitesboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 535th, while Jim Ned is ranked 217th).
After only nine points in their last matchup, Whitesboro made sure to put some points up on the board against Ponder on Friday. Whitesboro breezed by Ponder at home to the tune of 47-14. Whitesboro pushed the score to 33-8 by the end of the third, a deficit Ponder had little chance of recovering from.
Whitesboro can attribute much of their success to Karter Sluder, who gained 97 total yards and three touchdowns, and Maxx Parker, who rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Meanwhile, Jim Ned waltzed into Friday's match with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 14-7 victory over Iowa Park.
Jim Ned's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dean Guffey, who rushed for 39 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 96 yards and a touchdown. Guffey hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. Jim Ned also got a significant boost from Brayden Shipman, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Whitesboro's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Jim Ned, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Whitesboro came up short against Jim Ned when the teams last played back in November of 2018, falling 30-21. Can Whitesboro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
