Independence has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Stockdale Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Stockdale took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Independence, who comes in off a win.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 26 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact Independence proved on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 56-28 victory over Bakersfield at home.
Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylynn Bolden, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 23 rebounds. Bolden has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'Rayah Robertson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Stockdale's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 58-34 defeat at the hands of Frontier. While losing is never fun, Stockdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1029th, while the Titans are ranked 402nd).
Independence is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. As for Stockdale, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.
Independence took their win against the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in January by a conclusive 54-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independence since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
