Esperanza had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-13 to make it four. They fell 9-4 to the Canyon Comanches. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Aztecs of the 6-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Esperanza got a good showing from Brody Reeds, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Reeds gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Esperanza saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Pastian, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Bishop Thomas, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Canyon, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.
On Canyon's side, Matt Simons was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Simons has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Cooper Stevenson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Kyle Mills was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Trevor Kendall also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Looking ahead, Esperanza is taking a road trip to take on Adelanto at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crean Lutheran at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Comanches 3.5, the Saints 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
