Damien has gone 8-2 against Los Osos recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Grizzlies at 3:15 p.m.
Chino Hills hit Damien with a four-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 7-3 to the Huskies. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Russell Del Castillo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gino Tarzia made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Los Osos had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Highlanders/Scots by a score of 7-2.
Los Osos also got a great performance from Gavin Loeb-Keene as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Loeb-Keene a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Cromwell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since April 1st. Reagan Samples was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Los Osos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Upland only posted an OBP of .323.
Los Osos' record is now 15-6. As for Damien, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Damien came up short against Los Osos when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
