Maywood Academy hasn't had much luck against Torres recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Nighthawks will be playing at home against the Toros at 3:00 p.m. Maywood Academy has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Maywood Academy fell victim to Marquez and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Gladiators, falling 14-0. The Nighthawks just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Meanwhile, Torres waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Toros, who have now won six matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Josecruz Ramos and Angel Tostado made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Ramos tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Tostado struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ramos scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Tostado scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Jouse Solis Rojas was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Abraham Ramos was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Torres kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive games.
Torres' win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Maywood Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Maywood Academy might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Torres in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Nighthawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
