The Banning Broncos are taking a road trip to face off against the Cathedral City Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Banning will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
On Thursday, Banning made easy work of Desert Hot Springs and carried off a 15-1 win. The Broncos haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Marquis Stewart-Vaughn and Nathan Cardiel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Stewart-Vaughn pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Cardiel struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the first time Stewart-Vaughn hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. At bat, Stewart-Vaughn scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Cardiel got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Stewart-Vaughn also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, John Lara III was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Joe Clark, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cathedral City posted their closest win since March 8, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Desert Mirage 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Moses Tinajero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Osvaldo Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Banning's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Cathedral City, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-7.
Cathedral City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Banning hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Cathedral City, though, as they've only averaged .232. Will they be able to contain Banning's hitters?
Banning took their win against Cathedral City in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0. Will Banning repeat their success, or does Cathedral City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
