Football Recap: Gary Jefferson Jr. Key Part of Team Effort in Bears Win

Bastrop lost to China Spring back in September of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Bears took down the Cougars 48-34. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 443rd, while the Cougars are ranked 89th).

Bastrop's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gary Jefferson Jr., who rushed for 180 yards and one TD while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Dallas Crescenzo did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 94 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bastrop was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 276 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Bastrop pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games. As for China Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bastrop will challenge Prestonwood Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for China Spring, they will square off against University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
