Jeremiah Montes was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Madera South is 3-1 when Montes posts two or more runs, but 2-18-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, David Moles was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Victor Palomino also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Roosevelt ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Sunnyside 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The team relied heavily on Brian Roberson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Manny Molano, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
With the victory, Roosevelt broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-10-1. As for Madera South, their record now sits at 5-19-1.
Madera South came out on top in a nail-biter against Roosevelt in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stallions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
