The Harbor Pirates can finally bid farewell to their 14-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Luis Valdez Leadership Academy 50-20 at home. The win was just what Harbor needed coming off of a 46-17 loss in their prior game.
Harbor got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gillian Hull out in front who scored 25 points. It was the first time this season that Hull scored 15 or more points. Keili Carriere was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Luis Valdez Leadership Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Andrea Mata Alejo, who scored nine points along with three steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Mata Alejo posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Kenia Reyes, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Harbor's win ended a eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-16. As for Luis Valdez Leadership Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Harbor does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Luis Valdez Leadership Academy, they and Latino College Preparatory Academy will face off at 6:15 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Latino College Preparatory Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
