Slater hasn't had much luck against Northeast recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Bearcats at 5:00 p.m. Slater has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Carrollton hit Slater with a seven-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats came up short against the Trojans, falling 15-5.
Emerson Meyer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Karlee Bellemy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Northeast made easy work of La Plata on Monday and carried off a 10-2 victory. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Olivia Cross made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Brooklee Harrison and Chloe Brumley did most of the damage at the plate: Harrison went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Brumley went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Melia Gittemeier was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Northeast is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Slater, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Slater has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northeast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Slater might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Northeast when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
