The Central Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 40-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monte Vista. Central lost against Monte Vista in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-24 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Central saw an underclassman step up: Maryanne Barrett scored 17 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Barrett scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya McClain, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Monte Vista, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Central will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Rancho Bernardo at 4:00 p.m. on December 21st. As for Monte Vista, they will challenge Lincoln at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
