Last Thursday, Monroe City was able to grind out a solid win over South Shelby, taking the game 47-37.
Meanwhile, Mark Twain came up short against Marion County on Wednesday and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, Mark Twain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while Marion County is ranked 122nd).
Mark Twain's defeat came about despite a quality game from Sam Northcutt, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Northcutt's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Aydan Dye was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
The victory got Monroe City back to even at 2-2. As for Mark Twain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
Monroe City came up short against Mark Twain in their previous matchup back in January, falling 48-37. Can Monroe City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
