The Northgate Broncos will head out on the road to challenge the Miramonte Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Northgate 2.6, Miramonte 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Northgate is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since February 28th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Las Lomas 3-2.
Northgate's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cole Torrey, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Miramonte). Everything went their way against Mt. Diablo on Thursday as they made off with a 23-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Matadors, who have now won three games in a row.
Casey Yung and Jonah Imberg made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Yung struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Imberg tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Yung also tossed no walks, which is notable because Miramonte is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-9 otherwise. At the plate, Yung went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Imberg got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Imberg a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ian Hughes was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Holden, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Miramonte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Northgate's record is now 8-6. As for Miramonte, their record now sits at 5-10.
Northgate came out on top in a nail-biter against Miramonte in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Broncos have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Matadors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
