Baseball Game Preview: King City Mustangs vs. Marina Mariners

For the second straight game, King City will face off against Marina. The Mustangs will take on the Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (King City has three straight wins, Marina has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

King City's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Marina with a sharp 13-0 victory.

JC Navarro was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because King City is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Navarro was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Joey Pina was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Axel Chavez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

King City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in six consecutive games.

Marina's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for King City, their record now sits at 3-10.

King City's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game.
