Basketball Recap: Laniece Brinston Key Part of a Team Effort in Huskies Win

Hanford West hadn't done well against Porterville recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Hanford West Huskies blew past the Porterville Panthers 47-24. The Huskies pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers had little chance of recovering from.

Hanford West's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laniece Brinston, who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine rebounds, and ten steals. Brinston is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Mckenzee Batemon was another key player, putting up seven points along with 11 boards and eight steals.

Hanford West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Hanford West has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Porterville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Hanford West will take on Mission Oak in a tournament on Thursday. As for Porterville, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Porterville Panthers challenge the Sunnyside Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Porterville is facing Sunnyside at the right time seeing as Sunnyside is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
