Temecula Valley and Great Oak are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Golden Bears will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Wolfpack at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Temecula Valley sitting on three straight wins and Great Oak on five.
If Temecula Valley beats Great Oak with eight runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Golden Bears' way against Murrieta Mesa on Friday as they made off with an 8-2 victory. Considering the Golden Bears have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mateo Mendoza looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Temecula Valley got a big performance out of Will Bandel, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Shim, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Great Oak had just enough and edged out Chaparral 4-3 on Friday.
Wes Shanabarger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shanabarger was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
Shanabarger wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Flores, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Jack Apodaca also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Great Oak's win bumped their record up to 11-6-1. As for Temecula Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Temecula Valley got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Great Oak by a conclusive 9-3 score. Will the Golden Bears repeat their success, or do the Wolfpack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
