Baseball Game Preview: Magnolia Sentinels vs. Saddleback Roadrunners

For the second straight game, Magnolia will face off against Saddleback. The Sentinels will be playing at home against the Roadrunners at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Magnolia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Magnolia gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Saddleback.

Gabe Segura was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Magnolia is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Segura was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Santiago Cortez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Blake Jaques was another key player, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Magnolia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Magnolia is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Saddleback, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Magnolia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saddleback struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
