The San Diego Cavers will be playing at home against the Mira Mesa Marauders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully San Diego focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
Last Friday, San Diego was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-40 to Point Loma.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Shanti Glenn, who scored 11 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Nitzel, who scored five points along with 16 rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Mira Mesa waltzed into their match on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top against Patrick Henry by a score of 50-39.
Ivorii Seals was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with seven steals and two blocks. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mira Mesa's points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Otero, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
San Diego's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Mira Mesa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: San Diego have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 41.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mira Mesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 27.1 rebounds per game. Given San Diego's sizeable advantage in that area, Mira Mesa will need to find a way to close that gap.
San Diego opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-37 defeat to Mira Mesa. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Seals, who scored 17 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds. Now that San Diego knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
