Clovis and Clovis West are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Cougars will square off against the Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Clovis will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Clovis fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Clovis East on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 17-16. On the bright side, the 16- run effort marked the Cougars' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Clovis got a good showing from AJ Gallock, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gallock has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dayne Williams led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Dalton Byrd was another key player, going 3-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Clovis West brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against Buchanan on Friday as they made off with a 14-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Golden Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Preston Lowe was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Clovis West is undefeated when Lowe posts two or more runs, but 8-11-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Castellanos, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Clovis West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clovis' defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Clovis West, they moved to 11-11-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Clovis came out on top in a nail-biter against Clovis West when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
