The Lee County Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Tift County Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Tift County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lee County, who comes in off a win.
While Lee County's win against Wilcox County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans skirted past the Patriots 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since March 28th.
Ethan Powell was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Powell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Landon Price tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Powell wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Lindsey, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
Lee County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilcox County only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Tift County was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They fell just short of Schley County by a score of 3-1. The Blue Devils' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
The win made it two in a row for Lee County and bumps their season record up to 20-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Tift County, their loss dropped their record down to 20-9.
Lee County suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Tift County when the teams last played back in February. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
