The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Montgomery 31-28. The victory was just what Mater Dei Catholic needed coming off of a 67-26 defeat in their prior contest.
Mater Dei Catholic found their leader in underclassman Promise Martin, who scored 6 points along with 28 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Otilia Sua, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds.
Montgomery's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paula Zumstein, who scored 9 points along with 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. Zumstein scored a full 32.1% of Montgomery's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cary Brown was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Mater Dei Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Montgomery, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Mater Dei Catholic will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Granite Hills at 7:00 p.m. on December 6th. Granite Hills is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Montgomery, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastlake at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Eastlake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Wednesday.
