The Tiverton Tigers will challenge the Woonsocket Villa Novans at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tiverton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Times Squared Academy. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Nolan Mercer made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Rego, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He also got three hits, which is notable because Tiverton is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-8 otherwise. Brody Travers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Tiverton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Woonsocket got the win against Juanita Sanchez Complex on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Villa Novans.
Like Tiverton, Woonsocket also got a great game from a two-way player: Patrick Munger. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Munger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Woonsocket got a big performance out of Braylon Guilbeault, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Guilbeault is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jullian De Jesus, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Tiverton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Woonsocket, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tiverton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woonsocket struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tiverton was able to grind out a solid win over Woonsocket when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Villa Novans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
