Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the Oglethorpe County Patriots at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Oglethorpe County will be up against a hot Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy put the hurt on East Hall with a sharp 16-4 victory on Friday. Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy got a massive performance out of Travis Troha, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Mason Odom was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oglethorpe County). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Jasper County a 15-0 shutout on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Jackson Tatum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Austin Lowe was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mathew Martin, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Oglethorpe County, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5.
Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Oglethorpe County in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, sneaking past 6-4. Does Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Oglethorpe County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
