Ceres is 9-1 against Johansen since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Ceres Bulldogs will host the Johansen Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Ceres' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Johansen's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
If Ceres beats Johansen with nine runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Ceres put the hurt on Modesto with a sharp 9-3 win on Tuesday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Isaac Moreno was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Ceres hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Johansen ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Waterford 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Gus Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Josh Moreno, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Johansen's win bumped their record up to 5-3-1. As for Ceres, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ceres has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Johansen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Ceres' way against Johansen in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Ceres made off with a 10-1 win. Will Ceres repeat their success, or does Johansen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
