Smoky Hill is a perfect 9-0 against Overland since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Buffaloes will challenge the Trailblazers at 4:00 p.m. Smoky Hill will be strutting in after a win while Overland will be coming in after a loss.
Smoky Hill will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Doherty on Saturday. The Buffaloes were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Spartans. The victory continues a trend for the Buffaloes in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Kadynce Schutt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Smoky Hill got a massive performance out of Nikiah Light, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Light has posted over her last ten games. Ellen Paris was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Smoky Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Doherty only managed ten.
Douglas County hit Overland with a four-run sixth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trailblazers fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 9-8. The Trailblazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Overland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michaela Halton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another was Sasha Davis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Overland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Smoky Hill, their record now sits at 7-12.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Smoky Hill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .498. However, it's not like Overland struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Smoky Hill took their win against Overland in their previous matchup back in September of 2020 by a conclusive 17-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffaloes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
