The Van Nuys Wolves will challenge the Grant Lancers at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Van Nuys has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Van Nuys took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Vaughn, sneaking past 12-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since May 3, 2025.
Conner Alagozyan was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kevin Mata, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Van Nuys always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Grant was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 10-3 to Arleta.
Jacob Arellano stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Van Nuys' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Grant, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Grant's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Van Nuys hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Grant, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Van Nuys' hitters?
Van Nuys was able to grind out a solid win over Grant in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, winning 5-2. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
