After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Tournament Opponent, the Valley Christian Academy Lions were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-35 victory over Lake Region Christian. The victory was all the more spectacular given Valley Christian Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 983rd in California, while Lake Region Christian is ranked 353rd in Minnesota).
Leading Valley Christian Academy to victory were Katelyn Mikkelson and Elle Mason. Mikkelson scored 13 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Mason dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mason has scored at least a third of Valley Christian Academy's points. Carissa Maples was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Lake Region Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ava Erickson, who scored 11 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Erickson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Annalis Benson, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Valley Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. As for Lake Region Christian, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Christian Academy will take on Coastal Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Region Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Cloud Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
