If the Monarch Royals were feeling good off their 39-16 takedown of the Chula Vista Learning Community Charter Cobras last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Monarch fell 48-38 to Coastal Academy on Friday. Monarch has struggled against Coastal Academy recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coastal Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than London Afalava, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Afalava is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Heiress Afalava, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Monarch's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Coastal Academy, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monarch's road trip will continue as they head out to face San Diego Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 24th. San Diego Academy is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. As for Coastal Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge School for Entrepreneurship & Technology at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
