The Bishop Union Broncos will venture away from home to take on the Vasquez Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop Union 3.3, Vasquez 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop Union barely beat Mammoth the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Broncos were the clear victors by a 23-3 margin over the Huskies on Tuesday. Considering the Broncos have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bishop Union got a massive performance out of Will Kemp, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Kemp has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Leeson, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Bishop Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Vasquez came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Knights since March 29, 2022.
Luke Real was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Real was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Landon McGriff was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season. Nate Jacobson was another key player, scoring two runs.
Bishop Union has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Vasquez, their record is now 14-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Union hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Vasquez struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
