The Steele Canyon Cougars and the West Hills Wolf Pack will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Steele Canyon will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Last Wednesday, Steele Canyon didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Hoover, but they still walked away with a 50-46 victory. Given Steele Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while Hoover is ranked 723rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Brianda Benitez, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and six assists. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jadie Bowers, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, West Hills had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 41-32 win over Calexico.
Steele Canyon's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. As for West Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Steele Canyon against West Hills in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 64-21 win. With Steele Canyon ahead 39-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
