El Capitan and Valhalla are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Vaqueros will take on the Norsemen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Capitan will be strutting in after a victory while Valhalla will be coming in after a loss.
El Capitan took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over Grossmont. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vaqueros as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Landon Harbach was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Harbach was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kasen Baker and Seth Walker did most of the damage at the plate: Baker went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Walker got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Baker has posted since back in May of 2024. Matthew Eckis was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
El Capitan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Valhalla lost 8-2 to Granite Hills on Friday. The Norsemen haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Mace Wheeler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Valhalla's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for El Capitan, their record is now 8-12.
El Capitan was able to grind out a solid victory over Valhalla when the teams last played back in April, winning 7-4. Will the Vaqueros repeat their success, or do the Norsemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
