Even though the Miami Vandals scored an imposing 57 points on Thursday, the Show Low Cougars still came out on top. Show Low walked away with a 66-57 win over Miami. Given Show Low's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Miami is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Preston Power was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. Nash Brewer was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Show Low is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Miami, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Show Low and Payson will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Hopefully Payson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Wednesday. Miami will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on San Carlos at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. San Carlos knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Miami likes a good challenge.
