Cortland extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 6-1 in the process. Everything went their way against the Westhill Warriors as they made off with an 11-4 win. Considering the Purple Tigers have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Zach Muir was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cortland got a massive performance out of Caden Albright, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Albright is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Owen Johnson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Cortland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.
As for Westhill, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 3.78 runs allowed.
Like Cortland, Westhill also got a great game from a two-way player: Pete Stroman. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Stroman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Stroman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Johnathan Murphy, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Coming up, Cortland will take on Jamesville-DeWitt at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westhill, they will challenge Chittenango at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
