Baseball Game Preview: Mesa Verde Mavericks vs. San Juan Spartans

For the second straight game, Mesa Verde will face off against San Juan. Mesa Verde will be playing in front of their home fans against San Juan at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mesa Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.

Mesa Verde will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against San Juan on Tuesday. Mesa Verde put the hurt on San Juan with a sharp 39-3 win. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Isaiah Shoemake and Caden Seevers made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Shoemake struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Seevers struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). At the plate, Shoemake scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances, while Seevers scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances. Those four runs gave Shoemake a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mesa Verde got a massive performance out of Jonny Alger, who went 5-for-6 with five runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five hits gave Alger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Nelson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Mesa Verde was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Mesa Verde's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for San Juan, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
