The Santa Ynez Pirates won the last time they faced the Arvin Bears, and things went their way on Thursday too. Santa Ynez walked away with a 45-34 victory over Arvin.
Santa Ynez found their leader in underclassman Helina Pecile, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Pecile is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Morrell, who scored eight points.
Santa Ynez's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Arvin, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
Santa Ynez won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Morro Bay at 4:00 p.m. on December 29th. Morro Bay will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Arvin will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Del Oro at 6:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Del Oro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1257th, while Arvin is ranked 531st).
