The Piedmont Panthers came tearing into Monday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Central Academy at home to the tune of 68-22. Piedmont's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Emily Polk, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Landry Smith, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Central Academy had strong showings from Jadah Pringle, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds, and Justice Hegwood, who scored six points along with two steals. That was a full 40.9% of Central Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Piedmont's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Central Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-12.
Piedmont will head out on the road to face off against Parkwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Parkwood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. Central Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Forest Hills at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Forest Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Monday.
