Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jayda Bushling and Jessie Bunting Lead Kern Valley to Victory

Kern Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They skirted past the Desert Scorpions 50-48. Given the Broncs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while the Scorpions are ranked 743rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kern Valley was led to victory by Jessie Bunting and Jayda Bushling. Bunting dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Bushling dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 steals. The dominant performance gave Bushling a new career-high in steals. Leenah Troller was another key player, putting up two points along with eight steals and seven boards.

Kern Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Desert still got an impressive performance from Destiny Hart, who dropped a triple-double on 28 points, 20 boards, and ten blocks. The contest was Hart's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalista Williams, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Kern Valley pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Desert, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kern Valley will square off against Frazier Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Kern Valley is facing Frazier Mountain at the right time seeing as Frazier Mountain is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Desert, they will challenge Bishop Union at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Desert is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
