Top-ranked De La Salle, No. 6 Pittsburg, No. 7 Liberty and No. 11 Cardinal Newman represent the North Coast Section while No. 2 Folsom, No. 5 Inderkum, No. 9 Rocklin and No. 10 Oak Ridge hail from the Sac-Joaquin Section. And from the Central Coast Section: No. 3 Serra, No. 4 Valley Christian and No. 8 Wilcox.
The sixth-ranked Pirates move up one slot after their 24-21 overtime win over previous No. 5 Liberty. The win avenged last season's playoff loss to the Lions.

Update: The Spartans beat San Ramon Valley 52-0 behind another stout defensive effort. De La Salle extended its unbeaten streak against NorCal teams north of Fresno to 306 (with two ties). De La Salle also this season has a 42-27 win over No. 2 Folsom. The Spartans are 391-5-2 against NorCal opponents since 1984. They have won 27 consecutive North Coast Section crowns and have been to a record 12 successive CIF State finals (those games started in 2006) and 10 in succession in the elite Open Division.

2. (2) Folsom, (7-1)Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Sierra Foothill
Coach: Paul Doherty
Update: The two-time defending CIF State Division I-AA champion Bulldogs, the top-ranked team in this section by The Sacramento Bee, blasted Granite Bay 56-10 as
Jake Reithmeier passed for 181 yards and Ari Patu 110. They combined for four scores and
Daniyel Ngata rushed for two scores.
Elijhah Badger and
CJ Hutton returned kickoffs of 90 or more yards. The loss this season was 42-27 to De La Salle. Folsom is 133-11 this decade with four CIF State banners, seven section titles and two 14-0 teams that lost to De La Salle in the since-dropped NorCal Open Division finals in 2012 and 2013.

League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Patrick Walsh
Update: Two time CIF Northern California winners in recent years, Serra beat Saint Francis 35-21 to move to 7-0 for the first time in program history. But 18 penalties irked the coaches. The Padres posted early big wins over St. Mary's, (56-28), Pittsburg (58-21) and Menlo-Atherton (38-13). Serra and Valley Christian are this section's top teams.

League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Mike Machado
Update: The defending CCS Open Division II champions beat Riordan 44-6 as
Cory Taylor tossed three touchdown passes. A big early win was 23-13 over Wilcox. Rival Serra is the team to look for in the WCAL scramble.

League: Capital Valley
Coach: Terry Stark
Update: The Tigers beat Antelope 35-20 as
Aaron Espero accounted for three scores as the regular-season winning streak reached 36. An earlier win was over Elk Grove. Coach Terry Stark recently won his 225th career game.

Update: The Pirates beat Liberty 24-21 in overtime on
Lorenzo Anaya's 28-yard field goal.
Andre Pierce had 10 catches for 135 yards and two scores. An early big win was over Wilcox 35-31. The loss was to Serra. Pittsburg is the last NorCal program to defeat De La Salle, doing so in the 1991 North Coast Section finals.

Update: The defending CIF State 1-A champion Lions lost to Pittsburg 24-21. Earlier wins were over Clayton Valley Charter, Vacaville and Oakdale.

Coach: Paul Rosa
Update: The defending CIF State 3-A champion Chargers beat Milpitas 49-21 as
Paul Rosa, son of the coach, rushed for 283 yards and four touchdowns.
Isaiah Flores went for 161 and two. One loss was 35-31 to Pittsburg and the other was to Valley Christian 23-13.

Update: The Thunder were idle. The lone NorCal loss was to Folsom 42-20 after it was 17-14 in the second half. One SFL win was by six over Oak Ridge.

League: Sierra Foothill

Update: The Trojans beat Whitney 26-14 as
Justin Lamson passed for 287 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score, as did
Dylan Warfield. The team had five sacks, two by
Anthony Whiting. The losses were by three to Folsom and six to Rocklin with wins over Lincoln (41-6) and Vacaville (45-20).

Update: The Cardinals beat Windsor 36-19 as
Jackson Pavitt tossed two touchdowns and passed for 250 yards and ran for 73 on 15 carries and a score.
Ethan Kollenborn made three field goals and
Giancarlo Woods had a 92-yard kickoff return for a score. The loss was 17-13 to Liberty. The lone loss a year ago was to Liberty. This program in the 1970s had the state record for consecutive wins at 47.

Update: The Mustangs were awarded a forfeit by Burbank because of low roster numbers. The loss was a 36-35 setback to upstart Cosumnes Oaks. The Mustangs lost to Folsom in the section Division I finals in 2018.

Coach: Michael Peters
Update: The Warriors of the East Bay beat Castlemont 55-0. An early big win was 19-7 over Marin Catholic. McClymonds has won two CIF State titles since 2016 with a 12-0 team in 2010, a 12-1 team in 2015 and going 12-2 a year ago.

League: Marin County
Coach: Mazi Moayed
Update: The Wildcats beat Redwood 14-0 on a day for the defense and running back
Matteo Perez, who rushed for 153 yards and caught a touchdown. The loss was 19-7 to McClymonds. Marin Catholic teams have had teams go 12-1, 14-1, 14-2, 13-1, 12-2 and 12-1 this decade.

Update: The Mustangs beat California 15-14 as
Jack Stewardson hit
Noah Rivas for a touchdown and ran for a score. The losses were to De La Salle 49-14 and to Liberty 24-21, undone by a tying field-goal attempt that hit the upright.

Update: The top-ranked team by The Modesto Bee, the Thunder beat Central Valley 51-6 by rushing 35 times for 319 yards and six touchdowns, including 99 yards and two scores by
Anthony Berry. Buhach Colony's best teams were the 12-1 outfits in 2010 and 2011, though this one is getting into that best-yet argument.

Update: The Knights beat Alhambra 55-6 to emerge as the lone league unbeaten team. Las Lomas went 1-19 during the 2015 and 2016 seasons and went 12-1 last season.

Update: The Cougars were idle. Coming off a 13-1 section Division III championship season, the big early win was 32-7 over Cosumnes Oaks, which later upset ranked Monterey Trail, 36-35. The losses are to state and national powers Vista Murrieta and Chandler (Ariz).

Coach: John Heffernan
Update: The Thundering Herd beat Franklin 60-13 behind a dominant rushing attack and the offensive line that goes by "Hammerheads." The losses were by two to unbeaten Inderkum and by three to dangerous Jesuit. A big win was 42-35 over Davis. Elk Grove has been a power since the late 1980s.

League: Delta
Coach: Steve Smyte
Update: The Blue Devils beat Jesuit 24-20 as
Luke Carrell passed for 166 yards and hit
Joey Asta for a touchdown, and
Taylor Vaughn ran for 109 and a score.
Payne Barksdale also had a rushing touchdown. This is the best Davis team since the 1990s. The loss was to Elk Grove 42-35 in a Delta opener.

Update: The Rams beat Tracy 28-14 as
Noah May passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns and
Tyrei Washington ran for 168 and a score. St. Mary's has endured one of the toughest schedules of any program on the West Coast with losses to Pittsburg, Serra, Mission Viejo and De La Salle. The program has had teams win 12, 12, 11, 11, 12, 10, 14 and 11 games since 2007.

Update: The Bobcats beat Willows 57-0 by rushing 31 times for 349 yards including 135 and three touchdowns from
Tyler Harrison and 113 and two scores from
Lukas Hartley. This is the feel-good story in all of Northern California as wildfires devastated the town of Paradise but not its spirit. Paradise has five shutouts and has allowed 6 points in two other games. Coach Prinz has another powerhouse brewing and has since 2004 produced six 11-1 teams and two 10-2 teams.
