Point Loma has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the San Diego Cavers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Point Loma focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
Point Loma fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Patrick Henry but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Patriots 47-43.
The losing side was boosted by Rachael Morris, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 18 rebounds, and nine steals. That was a full 48.8% of Point Loma's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kylie Wade, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, San Diego beat Patrick Henry 35-30 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for San Diego.
San Diego's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Saiyana Hughes, who scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hughes has scored all season. Mackenzie Nitzel was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 16 rebounds and two steals.
Point Loma's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for San Diego, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Point Loma have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like San Diego struggles in that department as they've been averaging 41.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Point Loma didn't have too much breathing room in their game against San Diego in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 44-40 win. Will Point Loma repeat their success, or does San Diego have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
