The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders lost against the Bonita Vista Barons last Wednesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Mater Dei Catholic took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bonita Vista. While losing is never fun, Mater Dei Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 469th, while Bonita Vista is ranked 148th).
Mater Dei Catholic's loss came despite strong showings from Promise Martin and Otilia Sua. Martin dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Sua scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Martin hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games.
It was another big night for Mahliya Wilson, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds for Bonita Vista. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 19 or more in the last seven games she's played. Haydee Arancibia-hardwick was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Mater Dei Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for Bonita Vista, they pushed their record up to 14-12 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Mater Dei Catholic is on the road again on Tuesday and plays San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Mater Dei Catholic is facing San Marcos at the right time seeing as San Marcos is stuck on a eight-game losing streak. As for Bonita Vista, they will square off against Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westview will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Bonita Vista surely won't give up without a fight.
