Mesa Ridge extended their winning streak to six on Thursday, bumping them up to 13-7-1. They put the hurt on the Canon City Tigers with a sharp 20-8 win. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
DonnaPaola Martinez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Martinez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Mesa Ridge got a massive performance out of Nahlia(Taco) Zunk, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Zunk a new career-high. Serenity Higgins was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.
Mesa Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canon City only posted a batting average of .250.
As for Canon City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.
On Canon City's side, Addison Arnold made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalie Henry, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Coming up, Mesa Ridge will head out to face off against Vista Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Canon City, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Woodland Park at 6:00 p.m. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.89 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
