Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Carthage Bulldogs walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Hawks 34-31. The victory was just business as usual for Carthage, who after 13 games remain undefeated this season.
Carthage was led to victory by Kj Edwards and Kd Matlock. Edwards rushed for 271 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, while Matlock gained 287 total yards and four touchdowns. Matlock's longest reception was for an incredible 82 yards. Another player making a difference was Jett Surratt, who threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns.
Carthage pushed their record up to 13-0 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.64 points. As for Pleasant Grove, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-1.
Carthage will be playing in front of their home fans against Gilmer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gilmer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Carthage likes a good challenge. Pleasant Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
