If the Tulelake Honkers were riding high off their 50-29 takedown of the Hayfork Timberjacks last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tulelake took a serious blow against Fall River on Thursday, falling 61-23. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Tulelake has scored all season.
Tulelake lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alejandra Perez, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Perez pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Tulelake struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fall River pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Fall River got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hailey Valdez out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 steals. Valdez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Serena Conway, who scored ten points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Tulelake has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Fall River, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-3.
Tulelake's road trip will continue as they head out to face Modoc at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th. Modoc is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. Fall River won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Portola at 1:10 p.m. on December 15th. Portola is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
