The Etiwanda Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Foothill Knights at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Etiwanda 3.9, Foothill 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Etiwanda made up a huge gap compared to their last game against La Mirada, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles fell just short of the Matadores by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Etiwanda saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Milam, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Luke Severns also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Foothill came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Blackhawks get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. With that win, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Jackson Phillips was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Evrett Rycroft was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Presley Gaborno, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Foothill's record now sits at 9-2. As for Etiwanda, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-6.
Everything went Etiwanda's way against Foothill in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, as Etiwanda made off with an 11-3 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
