Simi Valley unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 41-21 to the Spanish Springs Cougars on Friday. Despite 56 more yards than the Cougars, the Pioneers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the loss, Simi Valley still got an impressive performance from Zane Tryon, who rushed for 122 yards and one score on only nine carries. Tryon really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Cole Alejo also helped out with an impressive 93 receiving yards.
Simi Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of James Scida and Micah Hannah. Another thorn in Spanish Springs' side was Ryan Schlundt Bodien, who picked up three sacks, made five total tackles, and defended one pass.
Brady Hummel went supernova For Spanish Springs., picking up 115 receiving yards and three TDs. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Hummel a new career-high.
Looking ahead, Simi Valley will take on Valencia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spanish Springs, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Clayton Valley Charter at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th.
